The pilot launched by NHS Lincolnshire ICB is part of the NHS Long-Term Plan's goal to increase the diagnosis of hypertension to 80% of the estimated prevalence by 2024/25.

Achieving the target is designed to help prevent an estimated 150,000 heart attacks, strokes and dementia cases by 2028/29 and contribute to a significant reduction in premature mortality and improving overall health outcomes in the UK.

Daniel Till, general manager at Specsavers Skegness & Louth, said: ‘Since launching the service, we have already seen several people who came into the practice with high blood pressure, and working with other services such as NHS 111 and the Urgent Treatment Centre, we were able to get them the right support.'

Dr Sunil Hindocha, medical director for the ICB, said: ‘This pilot service is a proactive step in addressing the challenges of hypertension case finding in our communities. By offering blood pressure checks through dentists and opticians, we're meeting people where they are, removing barriers, and increasing access to essential preventative health services for those who need it most. Our hope is that this innovative approach will lead to earlier detection, improved management, and ultimately, a healthier Lincolnshire.'
