Once completed the centre will provide six new operating theatres, as well as a recovery area, short stay ward and post anaesthetic care unit.

Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust said 57 of the 180 modules that will make up the three-storey structure have been constructed in Hull, Yorkshire, with the remainder expected to be completed in early 2025.

Once completed the modules will be driven 200 miles and moved into position on site within weeks by around 100 construction workers.

The site has been prepared an on-site team who have cleared and levelled the area adjacent to ICU, as well as carried out significant drainage work. They have also installed 227 piles and started the construction of a retaining wall.
