Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said preparations to begin building work at the city centre site had been ‘more complicated than anticipated'.
Paul Matthew, chief financial officer at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘While the delay to the opening of the CDC will be disappointing to our patients and communities, we have taken steps to provide additional diagnostics appointments in the local community at Platform One in the meantime.
‘This means that more patients will still benefit from an earlier diagnostics appointment and receive the answers they need as soon as possible, until we can open the doors of the new CDC in 2026.'
The CDC will be a one-stop shop run by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to help reduce the backlog of patients waiting for diagnostic tests.
It will support GPs in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire by providing direct access to diagnostics services such as MRI, CT, x-ray, ultrasound, echocardiography, ECG and lung function testing.
The CDC will provide 100,000 additional diagnostic appointments each year. Once at full capacity, this will increase to 140,000 diagnostic appointments annually.
The centre will create an initial 75 jobs and when at full capacity will employ 135 staff.
