The trust – which runs Hertford County Hospital in Hertford, Lister Hospital in Stevenage, New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood – is now known as East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Supported by the University of Hertfordshire, University of Cambridge and UCL Medical School, the trust's partnerships with universities have strengthened its role in healthcare education.
East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust provided placements for more than 1,300 student nurses and 227 student doctors in 2023-24. The trust also supported career development with 268 members of staff enrolled onto an apprenticeship in 2024.
Adam Sewell-Jones, chief executive of East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, said: ‘This helps us to attract and retain the best people to ensure we can provide high-quality, compassionate care for our patients.'
Dr Justin Daniels, paediatrician medical director of East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, added: ‘This reflects the hard work that happens day-in, day-out across our hospital sites to ensure all our students and trainees receive high-quality education.
‘We are particularly pleased to be recognised as a Teaching NHS Trust ahead of our ongoing work with our partners at the University of Hertfordshire as we prepare for the opening of the new Hertfordshire Medical School in 2026.'
