Resident doctors in Scotland accept new 11% pay rise

Resident doctors and dentists in training in Scotland have accepted a £64.1m investment in their pay and reward package.

The deal will see an 8.5% salary increase, backdated to 1 April 2024, and a further 2.3% effective from 1 October 2024.

The new pay deal for residents doctors means those at the start of their career will receive a salary increase of £3,418 in 2024-25. For a doctor at the end of their training, the rise will be £7,088 over the same period.

A dentist in training at the beginning of their career will receive a salary increase of £4,239 in 2024-25. For those at the end of their training, the rise will be £5,902 over the same period.

Health Secretary Neil Gray has said: "I am very pleased that resident doctors, and dentists in training have voted to accept the Scottish Government's pay offer.

‘This demonstrates how much we value them and ensures that NHS Scotland remains the place of choice to work and train.'
