Specialist Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Sensory - WMF1485e

Employer :
Westmorland and Furness Council
Location :
Penrith, Cumbria
Salary :
NJC Grade 9 Level A to B, £29,777 - £30,296 (Pay Award pending)

Due to the retirement of one of our Sensory Higher-Level Teaching Assistants, we are seeking to recruit an experienced and passionate individual who is committed to improving the educational and life-experiences for children and young people who are deaf and who have a visual impairment. This role is open to staff with an HLTA qualification who have significant experience of supporting children who are deaf or who have vision impairment.

Who we are looking for

As one of only two HLTAs in the Sensory service, you will need to be flexible, hard-working and able to work under direction, as well as on your own initiative. The Sensory service also includes a Teacher for Vision Impairment and Teachers of the Deaf and we have a contract with Guide Dogs for Habilitation work. In addition, you will be supported by a wider team of Specialist Advisory Teachers (SATS) and the Educational Psychology service, with whom you will have strong working relationships. Westmorland and Furness SATS are a close-knit team who work well with each other and partner agencies.

This is a peripatetic role and you will cover the whole of the Westmorland and Furness council footprint, though we hope to be able to focus on the Eden/Penrith area. A car user allowance is attached to this post. There will be some opportunities to work from home but you will largely be based in schools and in the community.

If this sounds like your next challenge, please contact Andi Henderson (Principal Educational Psychologist: andrea.henderson@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk) or Pam Robertson (Sensory Team Lead: pam.robertson@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk) for more information or an informal discussion.

This role requires an enhanced DBS check with a Children's Barred List check. Please note this role involves working in regulated activity with Children.
